Phillip Yin Background
Phillip is passionate about global communications and enjoys helping businesses with his unique experience as a global journalist for three major networks. He is a Communications Advisor at Newsroom Advisory & Investments responsible for communications, public affairs, and external partnerships. He provides strategic advisory on external communications and media/government relations to a diverse group of cross-cultural organizations. His advisory includes creating executive communication strategies, media and communications training, and public affairs. He’s a former broadcast journalist for Bloomberg News, CCTV America, and CNBC Asia Television known for unique style of storytelling.
As a lecturer on global media communications at Georgetown University, University of Southern California, University of Washington, and George Washington University he’s proud to support education. He works with the American Chamber and has served as the Vice President of the U.S. China business committee to help U.S. Companies. In Seattle, he was appointed to serve on the citizen oversight panel to support the Sound Transit infrastructure project.
He began his broadcast career as the business anchor in Seattle and would follow up with anchor jobs with CNBC News and Bloomberg News. In 2011, he was the launch anchor for CGTN America in Washington D.C where he covered the White House and Congress. There, Phillip tackled complex business/political news and with politicians and global executives to help audiences understand complex issues. Among Phillip’s 4,500+ interviews: Washington Governor Jay Inslee, U.S. Transportation and Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde, and Roger Federer. He’s covered numerous historic events such as 9/11 and the financial crisis. In Washington D.C., he had the unique opportunity to provide special coverage of the 2012 election between President Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney.
On the investment side, Yin was the senior portfolio manager for Unifund Investments, a Swiss-based office with a focus on consumer goods, technology, and trade. At Charles Schwab, he was the spokesperson and help the Hong Kong business. In 2009, he helped lead and investigate credit derivatives losses after Lehman’s bankruptcy, which later led to the recovery of $1.8 billion on behalf of 40,000 investors.
Raised in Yakima, his mother worked for the county and his father was an architect for local schools and libraries. Phillip earned a business degree from the University of Washington, completed a Harvard Business School summer program, and earned a Master’s from Georgetown University’s International Executive MBA Program in Washington D.C.
